The healing is good and having extra options puts him in a decent position but does not make him better than Reyna unfortunately and here’s why. Reynas kit snowballs much harder than Phoenix which is a problem for him because his flash makes getting kills much more tedious than leer. So arguing about team play for any duelist is very redundant when we have initiators and controllers to organise the team instead. When you play duelist, you are always picking for yourself and not the team, your contribution is only your kill count and nothing more. I’m good at both Phoenix and Reyna as my mains and I got to say Phoenix needs a flash buff very badly. Up until this latest T1 series I’d say Phoenix was picked less, but he seems to have been picked quite a bit this tournament, so make of that what you will. Right now neither of them is core to the meta (only Sage, Brim, and Cypher are), but nothing of them are seeing selection. Phoenix on the other hand also has his wall which can be used to break up bomb sites, and Run It Back can be used for recon in addition to fragging, so I’d argue he has more potential to add to the team utility and is also less dependent on purely out-aiming opponents. Reyna doesn’t add a ton in terms of team utility, but she’s a bit momentum agent, so if you really want to bank on your own aim as your most differentiating quality then Reyna would be a good choice. If you’re working out your main I wouldn’t worry too much about how they fit into the current meta - every character is susceptible to nerfs and buffs, and Riot’s approach seems very much to indicate every agent will get their time in the spotlight.Īs other commenters mentioned they are both fairly similar on entry fragging specifically, but they do have differences in the rest of their kit.
